An Update From Pastor Donny and Elder Team
The past seven weeks have been a journey of change for Christ’s church. We have faced decisions and choices that many have never encountered in their ministry lifetime. However, God is not surprised by these events. He is calling forth His church to trust in Him. He is leading us into a deeper commitment to Him and His ways. The church is the light of Christ in this world filled with darkness. Therefore we want to be that light no matter what is happening around us.
Our current state of affairs requires the church to seek wisdom from God, the Holy Spirit. Our Elder Team met on Thursday of this week to discuss the next steps. We are seeking God’s direction for re-opening the campus and for continuing to grow each other as disciple-makers. Here are a few things to pray about with us and to share impressions you believe the Lord is giving you.
The timing of a reopening of our campus. We would like that to be a time when we can all come back together. Under the current guidelines, we are only able to have about 35 people in our worship center. Making sure our children and childcare workers are safe has its challenges under the guidelines our Governor has provided.
Allowing our DM Communities to begin meeting again in small groups.
Best steps for making our campus a safe place to return for fellowship and worship.
The COVID-19 crisis has forced us to make changes. Some good and some not so good.
Here are a few of the good things…
Through technology, we are averaging over 900 views of our weekly worship.
Families are spending time worshipping together.
There is a heightened awareness of our need for God and the need to share His grace with others. He is our provider and His sovereign rule in our lives is greater than the best of governments.
Our hope for tomorrow is found in Christ alone.
We can still be the Church even through a shutdown!
So what’s next…
Now more than ever we need to be praying for wisdom and direction. We are asking God for clarity on when to re-open our campus. It will not be this Sunday and without clarity from the Holy Spirit, it probably will not be prior to May 17, 2020. Please pray with us and share your impressions (elderteam@lakesharon.org) concerning opening in smaller groups or waiting until we can host a Reunion Celebration where all can safely join us for worship. In New Testament history there were fifty days between Resurrection Sunday and Pentecost Sunday. During these days Jesus instructed His disciples to pray and wait for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in a remarkable way. I am praying that this Pentecost Sunday (May 31, 2020) will bring a renewed outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Lake Sharon! Lord, we ask You to do it again!

UPDATE: 3.20.20
UPDATE - 3.18.20
DEAR CHURCH FAMILY,
We are walking through a season of uncertainty and it is difficult for us not to fear. We are living in a season of change and for those who don’t like change, this is both stressful and at times out of our control. In all honesty, I feel that pain. Control is a mental safety net even when it has holes in it. As believers how do we cope with our fears or the feelings that everything is out of control?
We start with God’s word. Although we are being asked to isolate ourselves from physical contact we are not being asked to separate ourselves from God’s word. God the Holy Spirit is creative and He will lead us to creative ways to be fed from God’s Word. Our President has requested that we take extreme action to avoid the spread of the Covid-19 virus. Our Elder Team believes this is council we should not take lightly and council that is given for the sake of saving many lives. As is true with any council or direction we receive we never simply take it at face value. We bring it before the Lord and trust Him to guide us through what we are being told.
At this time we believe the Lord has affirmed to us that following the suggestions from our President and his Covid-19 council are necessary for the safety of the largest number of people. We are not being asked to refrain from worshipping the one true God but rather to find creative ways to make worship a priority for our church family. In some ways, this change of routine helps us prioritize what is really important to us. True followers of Jesus are intentional in their efforts to hear from God even when others are not.
As much as we did not want to change our worship format for last Sunday, this Sunday, and potentially the next we are continuing to work on alternative ways to provide a worship experience where we can stay connected digitally. One of those ways is to provide a mid-week time for us to be In God’s word corporately. Although this formate if different for us, it does work. Since it was posted last Sunday, we have had approximately 1,500 views of our live sermon. Mark is working on our best format for capturing audio and video for distribution so we may do Facebook live again this week or another based on this research.
The most effective way you can keep up with the most current information from our church is by visiting our website and specifically the Covid-19 response page (https://www.lakesharon.org/covid19). It can be reached by clicking on the top banner of our homepage. You can also follow our Facebook page for Lake Sharon Community Church.
THE NEXT THIRTEEN DAYS
For the next 13 days, we will follow the recommendations from the President's Covid-19 council and the CDC and will not have any activities on Lake Sharon's campus. This includes worship services, The Well Student Ministry, and the Tuesday women's Bible studies.

ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY TO BE TOGETHER
It is our hope that we will have our mid-week study on "Fear or Faith" posted sometime TODAY and can be viewed at any time. We will also be posting how you can participate digitally for this Sunday at 10:30 am.
KEEP BEING THE CHURCH
• Take the initiative to stay consistent in your feeding on God’s word and keeping your vision on Christ through prayer.
•. Don’t stop doing the work of a disciple-maker. Use this time of separation as an opportunity from God to build new and deeper relationships.
• If you are not in a high-risk group you may want to use the time you would normally be at church or in a DM community to serve someone or to share a meal with a small group.
• This time of separation for our church family is not easy but it will make our reunion even sweeter when we can join in corporate worship.
We love you all and appreciate your faithfulness to the ministry and work of Lake Sharon Community Church.
AN UPDATE ON COVID-19
Dear Church Family, As we face this trial together we need to remind ourselves that God is watching over us. 2Timothy 1:7 says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and sound judgement.”
Due to the nature of this virus and its ability to be airborne for up to 3 hours our Elder Team believes it is best to cancel all activities this week at our campus. President Trump has asked us to make this Sunday a day of prayer for our nation and we all know that we need this. I will be leading an online time of prayer and encouragement beginning at 10:30 am for all who can join us. Each Disciple-Making Community will make their own decision regarding their meeting in homes this week.
We will keep you informed during the week regarding next Sunday and our plans for moving forward. This is a time to stay connected by phone, text, or social media.
In the Daily Walk Bible for February 23 it states, “When your heart is filled with faith, there is no room left for fear.” This is a time when we exercise our belief in what God is able to do for us. God alone is our refuge and strength, a very present help in time of need (Psalm 46:1).
Please pray for the medical professionals that are on the front lines treating and caring for those impacted by this virus. We are very grateful for your continued prayers and your understanding as we navigate this season of uncertainty under the leadership of the Holy Spirit.
Your Pastor,
Donny Forson
